A Welcome to schools and groups Visiting Chard Museum. Step into the heart of local history at Chard Museum, where each corner brings Somerset’s past to life for curious young minds! Housed in a 16th-century thatched building, the museum offers a unique learning experience that supports the curriculum in History, English, Science, Design & Technology, and Citizenship. Students can explore a recreated Victorian classroom, discover everyday life in the Old Kitchen, investigate local industries such as lace-making and cider production, and learn about famous innovators like John Stringfellow (aviation pioneer) and James Gillingham (prosthetic limb maker). Our school sessions cover popular topics such as Victorian Life, World War II, and Local Inventions, making strong links to both national and local curriculum studies. With hands-on exhibits, authentic artefacts, and stories that inspire curiosity, a visit to Chard Museum provides opportunities to develop enquiry skills, critical thinking, and a deeper understanding of how people’s lives have shaped our world. Group visits are designed for a maximum of 35 students, ensuring every child can engage, explore, and enjoy. Prices £3 Per Pupil, Adults No Fee.
