Jubilee Plaque
From the people of Chard in Celebration of the Diamond Jubilee of
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Unveiled on 2nd June 2012
Chard marked the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee (2012) by adding a new blue plaque to the town. It was unveiled by the out-going Miss Chard, Beckie Orchard and her princess Jessica Lacey along with Flower Girl Chloe Perry. The curtain was the same one used when Princess Anne visited the town for the 750 celebrations and was made by Miss Chard’s grandmother, Beryl Orchard.
June 2012 Chard celebrated the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
A number of groups including Forefront Community Church with its entry of Noah’s Ark, and Chard Light Operatic Kids Society participated in the two parades that took part in the town. The first at 12noon in which people were invited wear fancy dress outfits to join in the procession through the town centre to lots of applause from crowds lining the streets.
The second torchlight procession in the evening left the town's sorting office at 9pm and took in Fore Street, High Street and Crowshute link, before heading up to Mitchell Gardens to light the Beacon at 10.10pm.
Chard's Olympic Torch bearer James Winter carried out the duties, and was joined by the town's Diamond Queen Joan Oliver, who arrived in an open top Aston Martin.
