Hidden Figures Film Night at Chard Museum
Chard Museum is delighted to present a special screening of Hidden Figures, sponsored by Cine Chard and hosted by Chard Museum's Margaret Bondfield Steering Group.
As we look ahead to 2029, the centenary of Margaret Bondfield becoming Britain's first female Cabinet Minister, a series of events and activities are being organised to raise awareness of this remarkable woman from Chard and her pioneering achievements.
Hidden Figures tells the inspiring true story of the brilliant Black female mathematicians who played a vital role in NASA's early space programme, breaking down barriers and challenging expectations. Their determination, intelligence and resilience changed history.
Margaret Bondfield broke similar boundaries in Britain. Rising from humble beginnings as a working-class shop girl, she became a leading trade unionist, champion of workers' rights and, in 1929, Britain's first female Cabinet Minister when she was appointed Minister of Labour. The film provides a fascinating opportunity to reflect on the achievements of women who overcame significant obstacles to make their mark on history.
